How to measure a conveying elbow

Measure the connection and clear flow path

Use an approved drawing where available. Otherwise record pipe outside diameter, wall thickness and clear bore. Include the units and measuring method.

For a flanged elbow, record flange outside diameter, bolt-circle diameter, hole count, hole diameter and facing. Photograph any standard or identification marking.

Capture the shape

Record bend angle, centerline radius for a swept bend and tangent lengths. For a compact elbow, use a dimensioned envelope drawing showing inlet and outlet centerlines, face-to-center dimensions and overall projection.

Show the installation

Provide flow direction, inlet and outlet orientation, support locations and available removal space. A casting mark is useful identification information, but it does not replace confirmed dimensions.
