Replacement and Retrofit of Pneumatic Conveying Elbows

Review the complete replacement & retrofit content below. All specifications and product claims remain subject to approval before publication.

Identify the Existing Bend Type

Begin with a photograph in place and any model, drawing or manufacturer reference. Identify whether the elbow is a pocket design, continuously curved sweep, segmented fabrication or lined assembly. An external resemblance is not proof of the internal geometry, especially for cast pocket and reinforced products.

Record Wear and Failure Mechanism

Photograph damage before removal and identify its location: outside bend wall, chamber impact surface, liner joint, exit spool or flange. Record the approximate operating hours or conveyed tonnes to failure, plus any recent changes in material or conveying conditions. This helps distinguish local wear from a broader process problem.

Measure Flanges and Pipe Ends

Capture actual pipe OD, wall, bore, face type, bolt circle, bolt holes, end positions and available dismantling space. Do not assume the same nominal size automatically fits an existing US or European piping system. Measurement guide.

Compare Alternative Geometries

A pocket elbow may occupy a different envelope than a sweep even when the connection size is identical. A segmented bend can require other clearance and support considerations. Compare the selected angle, centerline positions, outlet orientation, downstream wear and pressure behavior before approving a new geometry.

Choose Materials and Lining

Replacing an unprotected steel elbow with a ceramic or basalt-lined design changes weight, bore, transition details and inspection needs. A hardfaced bend changes the internal contact surface. Evaluate these changes along with expected abrasion and impact, rather than changing material solely because the former wall wore through.

Confirm Installation Envelope

Check supports, insulation, accessibility, nearby instrumentation and replacement lift. Include actual flange face-to-face or face-to-center dimensions and the clear route for maintenance removal. A compact body is not necessarily an easy replacement if adjacent spools have to move.

Submit a Replacement Enquiry

The most useful package consists of a route sketch, dimensioned photos, details of the conveyed product, operating conditions and the problem to be solved. We can identify missing dimensions and prepare a basis for an approved proposal. Request replacement assessment.
